Declaring a major or premajor

• Most Arts and Sciences majors are open entry regardless of GPA. Use the directory of Dance major for prospective students majors to find the program and the advising information you'll need to set up an appointment and make your declaration.
  
  
• Arts and Sciences majors that have criteria and/or processes to declare or apply include:
  • Actuarial Sciences (premajor and major info),
  • Art (major is open enrollment but portfolio review required for BFA students)
  • Art Education (meet with advisor to declare and review portfolio and application info)
  • Communication (premajor info | major info)
  • Computer and Information Sciences (not available to current Ohio State students who are not already in pre-CIS or pre-CSE),
  • Dance (meet with Dance advisor to discuss audition and other requirements)
  • Data Analytics (major info | premajor info),
  • Design (Interested students should talk with a Design advisor before planning toward this major, as students may not be able to change into this major)
  • Mathematics and Integrated Major in Math and English (complete Carmen module to declare)
  • Music (meet with Music advisor to discuss audition and other requirements)
  • Neuroscience (premajor and major info) and
  • Psychology (complete Carmen module to declare)

Before applying to the Fisher College of Business on the Columbus campus, students need a 3.1 cumulative Ohio State GPA in at least 12 graded Ohio State hours with a "C" or better in English 1110/WIL Foundation and a "C" or better in either Math 1131 or 1151​.

Applications are available for three one-month periods leading up each of the application deadlines:

• June 1 (for autumn admission to major),
• Sept. 15 (for spring) and
• Jan 31 (for summer).

The Dental Hygiene major requires many prerequisites and students should contact an advisor from the program as soon as possible.

Moving into the premajor in Dental Hygiene requires a 2.7 Ohio State GPA in at least 12 graded Ohio State hours.

To declare a major in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, call 614-292-6891 or visit 100 Agricultural Administration Building.

To declare a premajor for any Health and Rehabilitation Sciences major, students should have an Ohio State GPA of at least a 2.5 and should follow the steps described at on the HRS Student Services, including completing a brief online information session.

Nursing is a competitive major with many prerequisites courses. See BSN Admissions for details. Interested students should meet with Nursing advising as soon as possible.

Students are eligible to switch to pre-nursing provided they have at least 12 hours of Ohio State credit and a minimum GPA of 3.2. See this page for process for declaring pre-Nursing.

The College of Nursing's Health and Wellness major also has a premajor. Students with at least 12 hours of Ohio State credit and a minimum GPA of 2.75 are eligible for this premajor. See premajor and major application processes here.

The Public Affairs undergraduate majors do not have a GPA requirement but interested students will want to meet with an advisor from the college to discuss their plans and make their declaration.

Interested students should contact a Social Work advisor. Students typically need a 2.0 GPA to move into their premajor.
